Baker Lake July 2001 (cont)

The Lakes along the Temperance River chain are generally small with dark-stained water. There are walleyes and smallmouth scattered throughout

Me with a Temperance River smallmouth

It was in the narrows in the background that we ran into Ted Agar on his solo trip

I love this Sony digital camera. Shooting into the sun like this with film would have required multiple shots and experimentation just to make sure there might be something presentable after developing. Digital imaging makes it easy.

Mike surveying the Temperance River. The fishing was pretty good. Orange or red floating jigs tipped with a leech seemed to be what the fish wanted this trip.

Though I caught my share of fish, Mike clearly outfished me this trip.

That's me. The portage yoke I use is the Spring Creek seat yoke. It detaches in about one second and flips over so it can be used as a paddling seat. The detachability is also handy if I have something bulky that won't easily fit under a thwart. Flip it out of the way, load the bulky pack, and reattach the yoke.

I've been a wet-foot-canoer all my life. The boots I'm wearing while standing in the water are Rocky Foresters, which are Gore-Tex lined with 800 grams of Thinsulate.
They seem to be absolutely waterproof, which was a treat for me having been used to wet feet. However, the 800 grams of thinsulate proved just too much for this hot weather trip. It felt REALLY GOOD to stand in the cool water.
